Project52 Week 11

We’re going green for week 11 of the 2025 Project52. Not in an eco-hippy sense of the word green but in the colour green.

Green

The brief that came along with the challenge theme was to fill the frame with green. Make it the dominant subject rather than just a background element. There were a few suggested approaches—getting in close, using a macro lens, photographing food, or experimenting with contrasting colors. None of these suggestions are really me.

Looking through my back catalogue once more, I realised something. As a landscape photographer, I have many green photographs. The problem with those images are that green isn’t the main subject, the landscape is. My motorsport images though, gave me some choices.

I’ve been photographing motorsports on and off for about eight years. It started out with the formula-e testing at Donington Park, my local circuit, in 2015. Since then, I’ve photographed at various circuits and everything from open track days to GT Racing, GB3 and GB4 series. This means I have a large collection of images, and many of the images are of green cars.

My Week 11 Image

The image I’ve selected for this week’s theme was taken at an open track day. It was captured at the Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire while standing on the outside of Lodge Corner. It may not be the most glamourous of cars, but it embodies exactly what track days are all about.

The image shows a green MkII Volkswagen Golf that has been stripped down and fitted out for the race track. From the decals to the name and number on the rear windows, it’s clear that this car has been racing. Today is probably more about testing repairs or upgrades than racing, but he’s still carrying some speed through the corners.

As a lot of my motorsport images tend to be, it’s a panning shot. A technique used in motorsports photography that helps convey speed and motion. It’s not easy and I like to practice every opportunity I get.

Wrapping Up Project52 Week 11

Another week where I had to dip into my photography archive to find a suitable image for the theme. I’m really hoping that now I’m finally catching up with the weekly assignments, I can start creating some new images.

I do find that going back through old images can be beneficial. Technology and post processing tools improve, meaning I can try new editing techniques. Sometimes, you just find a good image that you’ve previously overlooked.

As always, thanks for stopping by and taking time to read my ramblings. If you have any questions or advice, please leave me a comment below.

Catch you again in the next update.
