Project52 Week 6

Framing is the theme for week 6 of my 2025 Project52. This week I would be attending a meeting in London, so I decided to book a later return train. It would give me some time to have a wander around the city. I was going to take my Fuji X-T5 along as well as my iPhone. I was optimistic of getting some higher quality shots as well as a shot for this weeks theme.

Framing

Framing in photography is a technique that uses elements within a scene to create a natural border around the subject. This helps to draw the viewer’s eye toward the focal point. This can be achieved using architectural structures, foliage, doorways, windows, or even shadows. Effective framing adds depth, context, and visual interest, helping to emphasize the subject while also guiding the composition. It can also evoke a sense of storytelling by enclosing the subject within a specific environment. It can also make the image more engaging and dynamic.

My Week 6 Image

Having stopped for a few beers after work, I had less time that I planned in the city. I decided to head down to Tower Bridge. There are plenty of well-known landmarks in the area and plenty of subject matter.

The image I’ve selected for this week’s theme is a shot of the dome of St Paul’s Cathedral. It’s taken from below the Millennium Bridge. It’s framed by the underside of the Millennium Bridge on the right and a building on St Paul’s Hill on the left. These two components along with the handrail on the stairs all lead the view to the dome of St Paul’s.

It’s not an original shot of St Paul’s, and it’s not particularly creative. I still really like this image. I like the black and white version, I think it draws attention to the cathedral dome. I’ve also impressed with the IBIS in the Fuji X-T5. This shot was taken hand-held at 1/25 second, f7.1 and ISO 1600. It’s has been run through Topaz Photo AI. I do this with all my images, but the sharpness and noise levels are incredible.

Wrapping Up Project52 Week 6

This weeks challenge was another reminder to me to take my camera with me wherever I go. Even though this wasn’t a dedicated photography trip, I still got to enjoy some photography time. Even though I didn’t have as much as I had planned. I follow Thomas Heaton’s YouTube channel and he often talks about f8 and be there. Basically, it’s not all about the final image, but just enjoying the process. It’s something I’m trying to bring to my approach to photography.

As always, thanks for stopping by and taking time to read my ramblings. If you have any questions or advice, please leave me a comment below.

See you next time.
